Sacred Valley Tour & Salt Mines – Moray Full Day

The area of the farming land between Pisac and Ollantaytambo is known as the Sacred valley of the Incas. On this tour, we will drive through the mountains of the Sacred Valley of the Incas which held great significance in Inca Culture as salt pools, which act as evaporation chambers.

They pour out of the mountain and down the mountainside at 12,000 ft higher than sea level.Owned by native farmers, these pools became the main economic activity for all the locals. The valley has a milder climate than Cuzco. You will see a succession of picturesque villages, agricultural terraces, and a number of other archaeological sites on the sacred valley tour.

Cusco – Pisac – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo – Salt Mines – Moray – Cusco

We will pick you up from any hotel in Cusco at 7:30 a.m. You and your tour guide will take our private transportation to the first stop, the Awanacancha Llama farm. Here, you’ll see the traditional south American camels of the Incas. Your guide will give you background information, show you a potato display and a textile center, showing how the wools are woven and colored. Good quality alpaca wool will be for sale. Then, will drive to the Sacred Valley Lookout Point, for beautiful photos and views.

Following, we will continue the journey up to the Pisaq Inca Archeological site, located on top of Pisaq Mountain in the Sacred valley. Your tour guide will take you to the most impressive spots. Then, we will drive along the sacred valley river for about 45 minutes, until we arrive to Urubamba, where we’ll stop for lunch. You’ll have an amazing selection of fresh food, served buffet-style.

After lunch, we will drive to Ollantaytambo town, where the second heaviest Incan monoliths are to be found. The site have an amazing Sun, Moon, 10 Niches Temple. This living Incan village displays narrow streets, with water channels. And then drive to the The Salt Mine (Salineras), close to the colonial town of Maras, are Pre-Inca. Thousands of saltpans have been used for salt extraction since Inka time. A small stream of heavily salt laden water, which is diverted into saltpans and evaporated to produce a salt that is now used for human and animal consumption.

Then to the stunning Inca site of Moray is also known as “The Greenhouses of the Incas.” Different levels of terraces are carved into a huge bowl, part of which was further excavated by the Incas. The terraces have varied microclimates depending on however deep into the bowl they’re placed. It is believed they were used by the Incas to provide the optimal conditions for their crops.
Finally, will back to Cusco, dropping you at your hotel about 6.30pm.
