You will be picked up from your hotel at 4 a.m. Following, we will drive in our private transport to the train station and leave on the 6:10 am. train, from Ollantaytambo. The train follows the Urubamba sacred valley River, until we reach Aguas Calientes town. Along the way, you will see spectacular views of the farmlands, snow-capped mountains and the mighty Urubamba River, one of the sources of the Amazon River.
Our guide will meet you at the train station in Aguas Calientes at around 7:30 am and transfer you to Machu Picchu on the shuttle bus. Following you will be visiting the famous Sacred City of the Incas, your tour guide will take you to the best views before the guiding tour.
Then, we’ll start the 3 hour guided walking tour, exploring all of the famous inka places of this beautiful citadel: The Temple of Sun, Royal Tomb, The Intihuatana (sun dial rock), Main Plaza, Temple of the 3 Windows, The Artisan area, the Condor sacred rock and many others. After the tour, you will have time to keep exploring Machu Picchu on your own.
At around 1:20p.m., you will need to take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants there in Aguas Calientes. Make sure to arrive at the train station 30 minutes before your departure. The train schedule is usually at 2:55 p.m. to Ollantaytambo village, where you will catch our private transport for another an hour half drive back to Cusco city. If you care to upgrade the train to the Vistadome-class service, then you’ll have the choice to leave at either 3:20 p.m. or 5:20 p.m. Both Vistadome train take you to Poroy station, where our transfer will collect you and take you back to Cusco.
The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are among the most famous and popular hiking destinations in the world. However, it’s important to understand that the distances involved are relatively small. The entire 4-day trail is only 26 miles (45 km).
The fastest and most recommended way to get to the town of Machu Picchu is by train from the stations of Poroy and Ollantaytambo. If you are in Cusco, it is best to take a taxi to Poroy (30 minutes from the city).
Get tickets in person for Machu Picchu in either Cusco or Aguas Calientes by visiting the Ministry of Culture, which is open Monday through Saturday, 7 AM-7 PM.
