Backpack Packing List
Duffle Bag
Bring a small duffle bag to pack your clothes and other items for the trek.
Backpack
You need a lightweight backpack to carry your essentials and personal belongings, such as a warm jacket, raincoat, camera, sunscreen, snacks, water, etc.
Dry bags
Having a few dry bags with you is a good idea. They are handy if you plan to go on any boat trips or keep your valuables safe & dry.
Original Passport
Bring your Original passport not only to get into Peru but also when you embark on Machu Picchu Tours or other hiking. It is needed at the official checkpoint at the trails. Every foreigner must show their passport and ensure that the exact passport details are entered on the entrance tickets.
Clothe Packing List
Underwear
Bring 4–6 pairs of breathable sports underwear and innerwear to cope with sweat from a high-intensity hiking adventure.
Base Layer
It is extremely important to stay protected while hiking at Machu Picchu & Salkantay Trek, where temperature is very low during the night.
Trekking Shirts
You’ll need to bring 5–7 trekking shirts, irrespective of your trekking duration. It is recommended to wear breathable and lightweight shirts during the hike. Don’t bring cotton clothes as they may absorb moisture and let you feel very uncomfortable.
Hard Shell Jacket and Rain Gear
Rain is possible while trekking during the rainy season (October-March) in Peru. Bring a hard-shell jacket and rain gear for ultimate protection.
Insulated Jacket
It is recommended to get a high-quality jacket as it ensures your warmth and comfort along the route.
Trekking Pants and Shorts
You’ll also need to pack some comfy activewear, hiking shorts and pants for the journey. opt for warm, long pants to unwind in the campsites. Avoid denim as it is bulky and doesn’t keep you warm.
Inner & outer Gloves
An inner glove acts as your next-to-skin layer and Outer gloves are like your outer layer jacket. Bring a lightweight, quick-drying inner glove, ideally made from fleece material. Outer gloves act as a shield from the cold and must be very warm, waterproof, and durable.
Hat for Sun Protection
You must bring a hiking hat that protects face and neck from the glaring suns at high altitudes. It should be light and easy to bend/fold so that it can fit into your backpack. Trekking hats with a neck cover are great to give you ultimate protection.
Shoes Packing List –
Hiking Boots & Socks
Good hiking boots are crucial gear on your trek. Badly fitting hiking boots will result in damaged toenails, painful blisters, and all-around sore feet. Come with 5–6 pairs of hiking socks that provide excellent breathability. Bring 1 or 2 pairs of thermal socks for the cold hiking days around the upper parts of the Trek.
Flip flops, Sandals or Sliders.
They are a little pricey, but they are so comfortable to walk all day in. We recommend bringing trekking shoes, sneakers, or sandals. Trekking shoes and trekking sandals are great to wear with warm socks & it will give optimum comfort.
Trainers
Having a pair of lightweight, comfy trainers or sneakers is ideal.

Sleeping Bag
For any of our treks, you’ll need to bring a warm sleeping bag, as the nights can get very cold.
Trekking Poles
High-quality walking poles can reduce the impact on your knees and leg joints by up to 20 per cent. Trekking poles are particularly useful when descending. It is recommend getting light-weight yet adjustable trekking poles, as they are easy to store and very versatile.
Sunglasses
The UV intensity in Cusco, Peru, is very high due to the high altitude and glare from the snowy mountain peaks.
You should bring a quality pair of UV-protecting sunglasses with you.
Flashlight or Headlamp
You won’t be hiking at night, but you might need to go to the toilet in the dark or want to read before bed. Extra lighting is very helpful as campsites are poorly lit. Don’t forget to bring spare batteries as well.
Water Bottle or Hydration Bladder
You should aim to drink 2–3 litters of water a day so arrange to bring water and stay away from dehydration at high altitudes.
Camera
The scenery during the hike in Peru is astounding! Bring a decent Digital SLR camera to capture the stunning ambience. Make sure your camera is light and can capture high-quality images.
Notebook/Journal & Pen
This is a great way to record your hiking adventure and remember every last detail.
Trekking Towel:
A small to medium-sized good, quick-drying trekking towel can come in very handy.
Cash
Keep some cash as you can buy snacks and water or to meet some emergency.
Toilet Paper
You might need to go to the bathroom during the trek. So, keep some toilet paper as most local toilets don’t have it.
General Medications
We recommend taking some medication to remove the common altitude sickness symptoms. If you’re hiking independently, then a first aid kit is a must. Be sure to bring sunscreen (SPF 50+) and 1 x lip balm to keep the skin protected.
Bug Spray/Repellent
Bring bug spray or repellent as you get closer and closer to Machu Picchu. Use it to keep them away.
Hand Sanitizer
Bring hand sanitiser to disinfect your hands before and after eating. Bring it to stay away from dirty elements during the hike.
